SOF-TECHFEST, IIT BOMBAY- INNOVATION CHALLENGE 2024-25
Science Olympiad Foundation and Techfest, IIT Bombay are pleased to announce "SOF - Techfest Innovation Challenge” 2024-25. Techfest is Asia’s largest Annual Science and Technology Festival of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
With the sole motto of nurturing young talent and promoting innovative thinking among school students, Techfest is conducting Innovation Challenge in association with Science Olympiad Foundation for school students across the globe. It is a platform for young visionaries and problem solvers to showcase their creativity, ingenuity, and technical prowess.
Students studying in classes 8th, 9th and 10th can appear in Innovation Challenge provided they have registered for SOF National Science Olympiad 2024-25.
No separate registration fee is to be paid nor separate registration required to participate in the Innovation Challenge.
About the Innovation Challenge
Round One
There will be a Special Question Section on Innovation Challenge in the SOF NSO Examination (in the question papers for classes 8, 9 and 10) to be held on 18th October, 12th November and 3rd December 2024. Students, who wish to participate in the Innovation Challenge, would be required to answer the question by sending an e-mail to ic.iitbombay@sofworld.org as per the following schedule. Please do not forget to write your name, your SOF roll no. and mobile no. while sending the e-mail.

AWARDS
- Each participant will be awarded a Certificate of Participation from SOF & Techfest, IIT Bombay.
- Top 20 ranking students will be invited to the finals of Techfest 2024 at Bombay with an accompanying adult from 17-19th December 2024 with travel reimbursement and accommodation provided by Techfest, IIT Bombay.
- Winners will be awarded trophies, gifts, Merit Certificates, and a visit to ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram with all expenses reimbursed. Other awards are under finalization.
This year's challenge focuses on "Green Innovation: Technological Breakthroughs for a Sustainable Tomorrow." Students can choose one of the following three topics:
- Sustainable Plastic Waste Management: Exploring innovative and eco-friendly solutions for managing plastic waste without reducing its use in our daily lives.
- AI’s Role in the Modern World: Understanding the significance of AI in today's world and its potential in preventing crimes, enhancing security, and making a positive social impact.
- AI and Sustainability: Building a Greener Future: Examining how AI and sustainability principles can be combined to create innovative solutions that reduce environmental harm and promote long-term eco-friendly practices.
What is the format for answering the challenge question?
After selecting a topic, students must structure their answers in the following format:
- Title: A clear and concise title reflecting the chosen topic.
- Problems: Identification and explanation of the environmental, social, or industrial challenges related to the chosen topic (100-150 words). Explain the need for sustainable or AI-powered solutions.
- Solutions: Proposal of innovative ideas addressing the identified challenges using sustainability, AI, or a combination of both (150-200 words).
- Conclusion: Justification of the proposed solutions concerning their implementation and impact (50-100 words).
